This Roman marble fragment represents the upper torso of a female figure wearing an exomis, an ancient garment draped over one shoulder and traditionally associated with depictions of Amazons and mythological warrior figures. The presence of the exposed right breast and the natural movement of the drapery suggest that this sculpture originally belonged to a statue of an Amazon from the Roman Imperial period.  Despite its fragmentary state, the sculpture displays a beautiful ancient patina and a surface naturally worn by time, giving it a strong aesthetic and decorative presence.  Comparisons can be drawn with examples published in Reinach’s Répertoire de la statuaire grecque et romaine (Paris, 1930), illustrating similar types of Amazons
